Anastasiades wins, but the show goes on.

Most of Cypriots went to the polls yesterday in what is widely seen as the most important vote in a generation.
As expected Nicos Anastasiades, the leader of the center-right DISY party had a comfortable win with 45.46 % of the vote. In a close fight for second AKEL backed Stavros Malas secured 27.3%, while independent Giorgos Lilikas attracted 24.9 % of the votes.
At one point it looked like Anastasiades would muster the over 50% threshold needed to ensure the voting would come to an end in just one weekend. But despite the early exit polls showing as much as 52% voting for the Limassol based lawyer, such optimistic results proved to be inaccurate later in the day.
And so Anastasiades and Malas go to a run off next Sunday in an election which is widely seen as a foregone conclusion of a solid win by Anastasiases.
